Book Preview: Classic Australian Comics 1855 - 2000 - Vane Lindesay

Keeping busy cleaning up scans for a book by Vane Lindesay, Classic Australian Comics 1855 - 2000. Here's a couple gems from The Comic Australian, 1911, by Hugh McCrae.

Noel Cook - Gag Cartoons

Noel Cook (1896-1981) Produced the following gag cartoons for the Australian Woman's Weekly during the late thirties and early forties. Cook was simultaneously producing painted illustrations for serials and adventure comics during this period. Cook's gag cartoons shared page space with his fellow expatriate Edward Brodie-Mack.

Phil Belbin

One of Australia's finest adventure comic illustrators, Phillip Bertram Johstone Belbin (1925-1993) produced a prolific output of work across K. G. Murray's stable of magazines and comics through the forties to the seventies. A quantity of Belbin's early work went unsigned (in particular paperback covers) and he was also known to use pseudonyms which included Humph, Fillini, Pittsburgh and Duke as well as his own name.
