Pussy Willow was a full page comic serial featured on the back page of Australian sex paper, Ribald, during the seventies. Scant information is available about these comics other than a copyright notice on one credited to Kam Taverner. The inclusion of a 'Modesty Blaise-esque' character and London setting would indicate these originated in England with Kam Taverner possibly being a pseudonym. Amazon UK has listings for three out of print Pussy Willow collections by Taverner, Pussy Willow and Doctor Libido, Pussy Willow on Lesbos, and Pussy Willow: Night of the Rats. Greetings Pikita Press Blog folk!
Hoping this excerpt from the soon to be released, first ever Pussy Willow Graphic Novel, "The Passions Of Pussy Willow - Baron Priapus" answers some of your queries
"The following is an excerpt from the introduction....
'A Short History Of Kam Taverner's PUSSY WILLOW '
Pussy Willow was created in Sydney in 1972 to be a comic book serial, a titillating, erotic, adventure strip , set in the UK, then later in the USA and other countries, with a view to appeal to a possible international audience. Pussy, initially being a sexy secret agent in the mould of Modesty Blaise - James Bond -The Man From U.N.C.L.E. etc (with the emphasis being on "sexy") was first introduced to us as an agent of F.E.E.L. (Female Erotic Espionage League) in 1972.
Thus began , what was to be an unprecedented decade plus run, of this much enjoyed Australian adult comic strip. Over the course of the strip's life, it evolved from being a simple, yet sexy, take on a traditional newspaper adventure strip, to at it's best, being a fabulously designed, well written and exquisitely rendered, graphic storytelling experience."
